On Monday morning, a four-year-old girl from Gacigoni village in Kirinyaga County was found brutally murdered, just a day after she was reported missing.
The girl had been sent by her grandmother to buy a packet of flour on Sunday evening at around 6pm, but did not return home.
When darkness fell and she had not returned, the grandmother called her neighbours and they began searching for her, but to no avail.
It was only in the morning that they heard people screaming and saying that her body had been found, dumped at a coffee plantation.
According to the grandmother, a packet of Unga was found at the scene, indicating that the girl was accosted while heading back home.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with Gichugu Deputy OCPD Alfred Ng'eno confirming the report.
Notably, a member of the same family was found murdered and dumped at Thirikwa Coffee Factory's farm just last year.
The girl's body was taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus town.
