On August 11, 2019, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was brutally killed and his corpse burnt in the Likoni area of Mombasa, a city in southeastern Kenya.

The body of the soldier, identified as Corporal David Githinji Mwangi, alias Man Gidi, was discovered smouldering inside a disused building approximately 300 meters from the Mtongwe Navy barracks, where he was believed to be based.

Residents found the body with a jerrican containing a liquid beside it, sparking concerns about the circumstances surrounding the soldier's death.

Mombasa County Police Commander Johnston Ipara confirmed the incident, stating that the soldier was found dead on the roadside and that investigations had been launched.

"There are no witnesses who have come forward to volunteer information," Ipara said, highlighting the challenges in the ongoing investigation.
