On December 13, 1973, Agnes Wanjiru Mwanyigah made history by becoming one of the first women to join the Kenya Police Force. At just 19 years old, she was selected to join the Kenya Police Band, a dream she had harbored since her teenage years.
According to Agnes, her interest in music was a key factor in her selection, but it was her determination to prove that women could excel in any field that truly drove her to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Agnes's journey was not without its challenges, but she persevered, eventually meeting her husband, Inspector Gideon Mwanyigah, who was the director of the Kenya Police Band.
As a law enforcement officer, Agnes focused on protecting people and upholding the law, setting a high standard for herself and inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
Today, Agnes's legacy lives on through her daughter, Sheila Mwanyigah, a media personality who continues to make her mother proud.
