Speaking at a Digital Earth Africa technical session, Omamo highlighted the potential of space technology to drive innovation and economic growth in Africa.
The Digital Earth Africa program aims to provide information on environmental issues such as flooding, droughts, and human settlement, using geospatial data and satellite imagery.
Representatives from Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya, and Australia attended the technical session, which emphasized the importance of sharing data to support government responses to environmental calamities.
The program will be institutionalized in Africa as a key program within the African Center for Statistics.
