On August 12, 2019, a fuel tanker spilled oil on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway near Stem Hotel in Nakuru, causing the road to be temporarily closed.

According to Nakuru East Police commander Elena Kabukuru, an alternative route for motorists has been created to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Police officers have been deployed to the scene to work with the fire brigade in clearing the spillage, controlling traffic, and preventing members of the public from collecting the spilled fuel.

"Officers are on the ground to avoid incidences of locals siphoning petrol from the tanker," said the Police Commander.
