On August 11, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred along the Iten-Kabarnet road in Elgeyo Marakwet County, claiming the life of a five-year-old boy.

According to reports, Anne Rono, a 36-year-old banker, was driving to Kabarnet town in Baringo County when her car veered off the road near Chepyogot Trading centre in Keiyo North constituency and rolled several times.

The tragic incident resulted in the death of the young boy on the spot, while Rono and another child, reportedly under the age of ten, sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to Tambach Sub-County Referral hospital for treatment.

Keiyo North sub-county Police Commander Moses Kanyi stated that the vehicle has been towed for inspection as investigations begin to determine the cause of the accident.

Initial reports suggest that the driver might have lost control of the vehicle while navigating sharp bends on the meandering road that traverses the Kerio escarpments.

Commander Kanyi emphasized the need for motorists to exercise caution while driving on the rugged terrain, urging that 'we are waiting for the inspection report to ascertain whether the car had mechanical problems.'
