On July 10, 2018, a fundraiser for Nangina Girls' High School in Funyula Constituency took a dramatic turn when a woman claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta had pledged Ksh.100 million towards the construction of a multi-purpose hall.
The woman, identified as Dorothy Ogolla Khaduyu, made the announcement during the harambee, claiming she had been sent by President Kenyatta to issue the pledge. However, her claim was met with shock and disbelief by parents and local leaders, who were unaware of any such pledge.
Ms. Khaduyu's business card identified her as 'Prime Minister and Secretary of State, Kenya', further raising suspicions about her authenticity. Area MP Oundo Mudenyo stated that he had inquired with the Deputy County Commissioner, the Education CS, Amb. Amina Mohamed, and the Busia County Director of Education, all of whom denied knowing anything about the president's contribution.
MP Oundo Mudenyo expressed shock at the woman's claim, stating that it was wrong for her to use the president's name in making a false pledge. The incident has raised questions about the authenticity of claims made by individuals, especially when they claim to represent the government.
