On Monday, a dramatic turn of events unfolded in Lamu County as an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) was arrested for allegedly releasing a suspected drug trafficker.
According to Lamu Police Commander Muchagi Kioi, the suspect was arrested on Sunday at Mtangawanda Jetty in Pate Island with 25 grams of bhang, a mobile phone, and a knife.
However, in a shocking twist, the suspect was later released after negotiations with the officers led by the OCS, Shadrack Mumo, who has been detained as investigations continue.
Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia had earlier vowed to take legal action against the OCS and his officers if they failed to rearrest the suspected drug trafficker.
Commissioner Macharia also issued a stern warning to all police officials involved in any form of drug trafficking, stating that their days are numbered.
