On August 11, 2019, a devastating fire ravaged the official residence of Homa Bay County Commissioner Harman Shambi, leaving him and his family in a state of dismay.
According to reports, the fire began in one of the bedrooms while Mr. Shambi was having tea with his children. Despite their efforts to put out the fire, they were overwhelmed by its rapid spread.
"The fire spread very fast from one room to another. This thwarted our efforts to put it out," Mr. Shambi said, recounting the harrowing experience.
Unfortunately, the Commissioner lost more than 90 percent of his property, including crucial documents and certificates. However, miraculously, nobody was injured in the incident.
"We escaped without injuries," Mr. Shambi added, expressing relief at the fact that no one was harmed.
Residents of Homa Bay who arrived at the scene managed to salvage some furniture, while water trucks were used to try and put out the fire. However, the high pressure required to extinguish the flames proved to be a daunting task.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the incident occurred just two months after Mr. Shambi took over as County Commissioner from his predecessor Irungu Macharia.
