On August 11, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto urged politicians to steer clear of talks on a possible referendum and the 2022 succession question, instead focusing on development.
Speaking in Meru, Ruto called on all Jubilee affiliates to 'get to work' and veer off from the agenda of succession and referendum talks.
He warned that continued talks of succession and referendum would eventually cloud Jubilee's Big Four agenda.
Incidentally, his remarks came at the back of a mass campaign by his allies who have viciously opposed calls for a referendum.
During the weekend, Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro was particularly vocal against the referendum, faulting Raila Odinga for trying to create a Prime Minister slot.
They want to change the constitution so that Raila Odinga is made prime minister and the other election losers get positions,' Nyoro said on Saturday.
