George Cosby Ouma, a 23-year-old Kenya Police constable, is set to make his international debut at the 12th African Games in Morocco, where he hopes to fulfill his childhood dream of winning a gold medal.
According to Ouma, his father, Joatham Onyango, a former boxer from Kisumu, has been a source of inspiration for him. Onyango never won a medal or represented Kenya at the international level, but he told Ouma that he would be the proudest dad if Ouma won a medal.
Ouma has been consistent in the domestic league, winning all his games with a unanimous points decision. He credits his coach, Lawrence Jaoko, for sharpening his skills and instilling confidence in him.
As he steps up his final training at Kasarani, Ouma says he is now working on sharpening his uppercut and left punching skills. He is a great admirer of Ukrainian lightweight world champion Vasiliy Lomanchenko.
Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) competition secretary John Waweru is impressed with Ouma's skills and believes he has what it takes to excel at the African Games.
