On August 12, 2019, Raino Tech4Impact, a Kenyan social enterprise startup, made headlines after receiving $100,000 in equity investments at a pitch event organized by Samurai Incubate Africa and Growth Africa.
The startup, which focuses on using technology to build solutions in health, agriculture, sports, green energy, and offer business support services, was among the 10 selected to pitch at the event.
Founded in 2014, Raino Tech4Impact uses technology to address various challenges in Africa, including food shortage and wastage. The startup's founder, Francis Nderĩtũ, was surprised to be selected as the winner, citing his late arrival and use of a boda boda to get to the event.
According to Samurai Incubate Africa CEO Mr. Takuma Terakubo, the reason for choosing Raino Tech4Impact was its potential to make a significant difference in addressing Africa's growing food shortage and wastage problem.
With the $100,000 investment, Raino Tech4Impact plans to help those at the bottom of the pyramid compete with imported fish, giving them a leverage to sell their fish more effectively and improve their livelihood.
