On August 12, 2019, former Kenya U-23 international John Nairuka made a significant move by joining Muranga Sports Excellence Academy Limited, a newly promoted National Super League side, on a one-year deal.
Having previously played for top-tier teams such as Posta Rangers, Ulinzi Stars, and Thika United, Nairuka expressed his excitement about joining the team, stating that he feels at home and is eager to play a key role in their promotion journey.
"I can't say anything negative about my football journey since it's had more ups than downs. Although the inevitable financial challenge has always been there, I know things are changing for the better," Nairuka said.
He added, "I am happy to be here. They have young ambitious players whom I connect well with and I think we can do well in the NSL this season. This is a team from my home area and sometimes that sense of belonging is all you need to perform."
During a friendly match against Wazito FC at GMS Cambridge International School, Nairuka played the entire 90 minutes, but unfortunately, his team lost 0-2.
Reflecting on the match, Nairuka noted, "We still have a lot of mistakes that we need to work on. The defence was not tight enough and we also gave away possession cheaply."
