Published on August 12, 2019, Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has been leading a charm offensive in various countries as the nation seeks to secure a seat at the United Nations Security Council.
The push comes at a time when the border row between Kenya and Somalia has escalated, with the Jubilee government reportedly spending Sh190 million on foreign trips in pursuit of the coveted seat.
On Saturday, President Kenyatta urged leaders from the Caribbean Community (CARRICOM) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECC) to support Kenya's bid, citing the critical role the UN Security Council plays in maintaining international peace and security.
"Kenya's candidature is informed by the critical role the UN Security Council plays in the maintenance of international peace and security," President Kenyatta said as quoted by Nation.
Kenya is seeking to secure the seat for the period of 2021 to 2022, and the support from these nations will make the country better placed to achieve this goal.
