On Thursday evening, a 25-year-old man in Kakamega County's Lugari location was left nursing serious injuries after his wife scalded him with hot tea over a dispute about food.
According to neighbours, Daniel Omollo came home and found his wife, Caroline Nekesa, preparing tea. However, he insisted on eating ugali instead, prompting an argument.
The couple's disagreement escalated, and Nekesa poured the boiling tea on Omollo, inflicting severe burns on his neck and chest.
Police say Nekesa fled the scene, leaving her husband in pain. Neighbours rushed him to Lugari Forest Dispensary for treatment.
As reported by Lugari Location Chief Evans Adavaji, the suspect remains at large.
Recent incidents in Kakamega County have highlighted a disturbing trend of 'ugali violence', with several cases reported in the past month.
On August 8, an 80-year-old grandfather was killed by his son over a piece of ugali in Shinyalu Constituency. The incident occurred when the two got into an argument over food, which quickly turned ugly.
Similarly, last month, a man stabbed his wife to death in Emukaba village, Butsotso East, after she refused to cook ugali.
These incidents raise concerns about the escalating rate of 'ugali violence' in Kakamega County.
