Police are intensifying their investigation into the disappearance of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen, with his estranged wife, Sarah Kamotho, being questioned in connection with the case.
According to sources, the police have found no leads on what happened to Cohen, a golf events millionaire who had an ongoing divorce case in court and had filed assault charges against his wife of 12 years.
On July 19, Cohen left his home in Lower Kabete, but his family and friends have not heard from him since. His workers claim that he was picked up by a 'white car' at the gate, but there is no CCTV footage of the incident as the cameras at the gate were installed on August 3, two weeks after Cohen left home.
Police sources say that the workers, who were interrogated along with Ms Kamotho, claimed that Cohen had removed the cameras and they were replaced only after he went missing.
Ms Kamotho had told the police and the Nation that Cohen was 'mentally disturbed' and that he was leaving for Thailand to seek treatment, but Cohen's sister, Gabriela, has disputed this, saying that she spoke to Cohen on the day he disappeared and he did not indicate that he was ailing or would travel.
On Sunday, detectives returned to Cohen's house and interrogated his wife and workers, who maintained that Cohen left on his own volition. However, Gabriela is now frightened that police might not make any headway in the case.
With detectives finding no CCTV evidence of the day Cohen left, they will now focus on phone data to help trace his moments. It has emerged that Cohen's phone went off near Parklands on July 20, but it is not clear where he was at the time.
