Deputy President Ruto and Governor Obado to Launch CDF Project in Migori ¶
On November 5, 2018, Deputy President William Ruto and Migori Governor Okoth Obado are scheduled to launch a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) project in Suna West constituency, represented by Hon. Peter Masara in parliament.
According to sources, the project was initially intended for launch by Hon. Masara as the area MP, but it appears to have been hijacked by the Deputy President and Governor Obado in a move that has sparked controversy.
The move is seen as a tactic by the Tanga Tanga movement to remain relevant, with the launching and re-launching of projects becoming a common occurrence in the run-up to the 2017 general elections.
During this period, some projects were launched twice, with costs exceeding the Deputy President's entourage. The move has raised questions about the Deputy President's desire to expand his political base, regardless of the scope of the projects he launches.
His appearance in public with Governor Obado, especially after being released on bond following the controversial murder of Sharon Otieno, will likely raise more questions among locals.
