Martha Karua: I Would Choose Raila Odinga Over William Ruto in 2022 ¶
Martha Karua, a key figure in Kenya's politics, has stated that she would choose Raila Odinga over William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview with K24 on August 11, 2019, Karua, who lost the 2013 presidential election and the 2017 Kirinyaga gubernatorial election, said that Ruto lacks a good record of being elected.
"William Ruto has no good record of being elected," Karua said, citing several scandals that Ruto has been involved in.
Despite her past losses, Karua has no qualms about supporting Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister and leader of the opposition, in the 2022 presidential election.
"If I had to choose between Raila and Ruto, I would choose Raila without a second thought," Karua said.
Karua also suggested that Ruto might be behind her political woes in Kirinyaga, where she has been at odds with Governor Anne Waiguru over the outcome of the 2017 election.
"I believe there was a conspiracy to rig the election. They stole our votes. They were not fair," Karua said.
Her comments come after the Supreme Court ruled against her in a case related to the 2017 election.
Despite the setback, Karua remains defiant, saying that the struggle for justice will continue.
"I did not get justice in court, but Aluta continua (the struggle continues). The journey to certification is long and winding," Karua said.
