On the heels of a meeting with Governors Charity Ngilu and Prof. Kivutha Kibwana to discuss poverty eradication in their counties, Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2022 Kenyan presidential election.
Published on August 12, 2019, Dr. Mutua's announcement comes as a surprise to many, but he remains confident in his ability to lead the country.
"I'm going for the presidency because I am able. The wind of change is blowing across the country and people want leaders they can trust," Dr. Mutua stated.
Dr. Mutua's decision to run for president is seen as a united front for the Ukambani region, with his announcement coming hours after meeting with his fellow governors.
"Our unity as Ukambani governors is not about ourselves but choosing what is best for the region. The same applies to my presidential candidacy," Dr. Mutua emphasized.
