Published on August 12, 2019, a significant shake-up has taken place in Kisumu County's health facilities, with 22 medics, accountants, and administrators affected by transfers and demotions.
Dr. Peter Okoth, the CEO of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, has been moved to Kisumu County Hospital as a dentist, while Roseline Omolo has taken over as the new CEO of JOOTRH.
Other notable demotions include Francis Ayugi, the medical superintendent of Kisumu County Hospital, who has been reduced to a regular surgeon, and Festus Ogada, a senior pharmacist in Kisumu East, who has been demoted to 'service need' at JOOTRH.
On the other hand, several clinical officers have been promoted to manage sub-county hospitals as medical superintendents or medical officers of health (MOH), positions previously held by medical doctors.
The changes were implemented by County Chief Officer for Health Stephen Sewe, citing 'service need' as the reason for the transfers and demotions.
These developments come just a month after the new Health Executive, Prof. Judith Miguda-Attyang', took office with a pledge to overhaul the health system and align it with Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's universal health coverage dreams.
