On July 7th, Adrian Carrillo and his wife Veronica, who hail from Mexico, received their permanent residence cards from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the mail, ending their 25-year wait.
Their 19-year-old son Alex, a US-born citizen, recorded a video of his parents bursting with joy as they opened the mail at their home in Chandler, Arizona.
"For those ignorant Trump supporters who say 'why don't they just come here legally,' it took my parents 25 YEARS and THOUSANDS of dollars to finally become residents. Blessed to say my parents' dreams finally became true," Alex wrote on Twitter.
The video, which was shared on Alex's Twitter account, quickly went viral, garnering more than seven million views in three days.
According to Alex, he posted the video to inform and motivate people who are in the immigration process to not give up, and for other people to see that the process takes long.
A green card gives an immigrant the right to live permanently in the US, the right to work at any legal workplace, and protection under all local, state, and federal US laws.
