Kenya's volleyball team is on the brink of disaster, with a brewing crisis threatening to derail their preparations for the 2019 African Games in Rabat.
Allegations of sabotage by senior players and members of the technical bench have been rife at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium in Nairobi, with coach Shaileen Ramdoo at the center of the storm.
According to Ramdoo, who was seconded to Kenya by the FIVB, some coaches, players, and officials of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) have been unprofessional in handling team matters.
Specifically, Ramdoo has accused his fellow coaches of inciting players against him during an international assignment, and has also claimed that there was favouritism in team selection ahead of the African Nations Championships in Cairo last month.
The KVF has dismissed the allegations, but it would be prudent for the officials to investigate the matter to ensure preparations are not disrupted.
Claims of favouritism and player unrest are particularly serious and could demotivate other members of the team.
With a dozen continental titles to its name, the team has been a source of pride for Kenya, and it is essential that the crisis is resolved to ensure the team continues to shine in future tournaments.
