Manchester United made a statement in their Premier League opener, defeating Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 11, 2019.
Chelsea's new manager, Frank Lampard, suffered an unimpressive start to his tenure, as his team struggled defensively throughout the match.
Manchester United's Marcus Rashford was instrumental in the win, scoring twice and converting a penalty in the 18th minute after being fouled by Kurt Zouma.
Chelsea had their chances, with Tammy Abraham hitting the bar early in the game and Emerson striking the post shortly before halftime.
However, Manchester United's counter-attack led by Rashford proved decisive, with Anthony Martial bundling in a low cross from Andreas Pereira in the 65th minute.
Two minutes later, Rashford timed his run to perfection, beating Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with a confident finish.
Substitute Daniel James marked his United debut with the fourth goal, firing into the bottom corner via a deflection after being set up by Paul Pogba.
