On August 9, 2019, Industry and Trade Secretary Peter Munya appointed President Uhuru Kenyatta's cousin Kathleen Kihanya to the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency board.

Ms. Kihanya, who runs Aces Ahead, a public relations and marketing consultancy, joins Mark Bichachi, a communications strategist, and Jacqueline Muga as board members.

Ms. Kihanya has been involved in a land dispute with developer Banda Homes, which she claimed had misled potential buyers on a prime piece of land. Banda Homes disputed the claim, stating they had purchased the land from another Kenyatta relative, Kamau Ngengi.

The Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency was formed by merging the boards of the Export Promotion Council and Brand Kenya, with the goal of growing Kenya's exports at an average rate of 25 percent per annum.
