On August 11, 2019, the Samburu County Government made a significant investment in the health and well-being of its youth by purchasing 20,000 knives and 20,000 gloves for a mass circumcision exercise.
The initiative, aimed at reducing the transmission of infections such as HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis, was blessed by elders at Nyiro area in Samburu North.
Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal emphasized the importance of ensuring that all boys resume school after their circumcision, citing a history of boys dropping out of school due to moranism.
According to the governor, each knife would be used to circumcise one boy, reducing the possibility of disease infections.
The one-month long circumcision exercise targets boys aged between 15 and 18, and was attended by religious and political leaders, traditional male circumcisers, and initiates.
