Published on August 11, 2019, Universal Pictures has cancelled the release of horror movie 'The Hunt' amidst the recent mass shootings in the United States.
The film, produced by Blumhouse, was set to be released in September and follows a group of people being hunted for sport by wealthy elites.
Universal's decision comes after a recent tweet by President Trump, in which he accused a Hollywood movie of inciting violence, widely speculated to be referring to 'The Hunt.'
"Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate!" Trump tweeted. "They like to call themselves 'Elite,' but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite."
"While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for 'The Hunt,' after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film," a Universal statement read.
The decision has been backed by actress Hilary Swank, who stars in the film as the woman behind the lethal game.
"I fully support the decision by Universal and the filmmakers regarding 'The Hunt.' It is a choice that I also personally felt was necessary," Swank said.
