On August 2, 2019, a tragic incident occurred on the Thika superhighway at Kastermill, where 24-year-old Gerald Kimondo lost his life after being pushed out of a speeding bus.

The bus, registration number KCC 021 ISUZU FRR, was headed to town from Githurai, and the crew's actions have been described as malicious.

According to an affidavit filed by a detective attached to Kasarani division, Kimondo was intentionally thrown out of the moving bus, and the crew may have been involved in the incident.

The driver, Naftally Kalama Fondo, 33, and his conductor, Alex Macau Gikonyo, 20, have been charged with murder at the Makadara Law Courts.

Chief Magistrate Hestone Nyaga directed that the two be detained for two weeks to allow the police to complete investigations into the death of Gerald Kimondo.

The driver claimed that he was driving along the road when he heard people scream and felt that the bus was unstable, but he did not object to the detective's application for more time to investigate.

The two suspects have denied getting involved in the accident, alleging that they started operating the bus early this year.
