On August 11, 2019, Nyando MP Jared Okello addressed the media in Kisumu, urging top government officials to mediate the crisis at the Maxwell SDA Church.

Okello, a member of Othoo SDA Church in Nyando, described the ongoing wrangles as 'ungodly acts' that could split the church if not resolved quickly.

He noted that the church's internal issues should have been solved internally, and that the police's intervention had exposed the church to ridicule.

Okello called on fellow parliamentarians, governors, and senior government officials to meet with both camps separately and together to address the concerns before they spiralled out of control.

He accused the wrangling groups of being driven by selfish interests that had clouded the church's main role of spiritual nourishment.

Okello asked the government not to be drawn into the differences, claiming that police were already exhibiting partisan positions in quelling the fracas at the church.

He urged the church systems to put in place a dispute resolution mechanism to solve the dispute immediately and asked the SDA faith worldwide to take a day to fast for Maxwell SDA church.
