Moses Kuria Slams Babu Owino ¶
On August 11, 2019, Moses Kuria, a member of parliament for Gatundu South, criticized Babu Owino, a member of parliament for Embakasi East, for urging Kenyans to change the constitution and elect Raila as president in 2022.
According to Kuria, Owino's remarks have caused fear among some communities in the Rift Valley region, who are being threatened with violence if they fail to vote for a particular candidate in 2022.
On August 9, 2019, Owino had urged Kenyans to change the constitution and be prepared to vote for Raila as president in 2022, citing the need to prevent violence and loss of life during elections.
However, Kuria has asked Raila to publicly denounce Owino's remarks, saying that they are causing fear and anxiety among Kenyans.
On August 11, 2019, Kuria wrote on his Facebook page, 'I am still waiting for Raila to publicly denounce the remarks made by Babu Owino. In the Rift Valley, some communities are being threatened with violence if they fail to vote for a particular candidate in 2022.'
It is worth noting that Raila has not yet publicly announced his intention to run for president in 2022, but his supporters are already campaigning for him to be the next president.
Other leaders who support William Ruto, who is seen as a front-runner in the 2022 presidential election, have also criticized Raila for seeking to change the constitution to gain an advantage in the election.
