On August 11, 2019, Dr. Roselyn Akombe, a former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner, sparked a new debate on the 2017 General Elections scandal when she declared her readiness to reveal the truth about the polls.

Dr. Akombe, who fled to New York eight days before the presidential rerun in 2017, revealed that she was ready to fly back to Kenya to testify and give clarity on what exactly transpired during the elections.

Her statement came after a social media user, Pius Kinuthia, challenged her to come clean on what really happened in the polls body.

Dr. Akombe reiterated that she was ready to testify under oath, noting that she had already done a report which is yet to be made public by the commission.

She added that she remained fearless despite what she termed as psychological attacks on her and asked those questioning her to direct the accountability issues at the electoral body.

Dr. Akombe had earlier revealed that the officials of the Commission had been compromised, noting that issues were not being decided on merit. This came before she tendered her resignation.

She further divulged that she and her family had been threatened, and cited the murder of former IEBC Head of ICT Chris Msando nine days to the August 8th election, the reason behind her flying out of the country.
