Former Kenya national women volleyball team coach Shailen Ramdoo has left his role at the Malkia Strikers, citing a fallout with members of the technical bench and the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF).
According to sources, Ramdoo's departure was occasioned by a dispute over his contract extension, which was set to expire after an initial three-month period.
However, it now appears that there were talks to extend his stay in Kenya by another year, but these plans were allegedly sabotaged by his colleagues Japheth Munala and David Lung'aho.
Ramdoo has also accused senior players in the team of wielding powers to influence player selection, a claim that has been denied by the players and the KVF.
‘I had a dream to qualify Kenya for the Olympics for the first time in 15 years. Now I’m without a job, and I’m also broke even though I was supposed to continue for another year,’ Ramdoo said.
‘Bitok has many other jobs, but he wanted my job. He was always coming for training and trying to mix with the players, take photos and put them on social media.’
Despite Ramdoo's allegations, KVF president Waithaka Kioni has denied any wrongdoing, as have Lung'aho, Munala, and team captain Mercy Moim.
The KVF has announced that Bitok, Japheth Munala, and Josep Baraza will take charge of the Malkia Strikers during the 2019 Africa Games, which will be held in Morocco on August 17.
