On August 11, 2019, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru announced that the government has put in place a range of incentives to attract foreign filmmakers to Kenya.
Speaking at the launch of the first-ever Indian film festival in Kenya, Mucheru highlighted the event as a valuable opportunity for Kenyan filmmakers to learn from their Indian counterparts and improve the local film sector.
The festival, which took place at the Westgate mall cinema in Nairobi, featured a delegation of renowned Indian actors and award-winning filmmakers, showcasing six films produced by Indian filmmakers over five days.
According to Mucheru, the festival presents a chance for Kenya and India to boost trade, commerce, and tourism, while promoting art and culture between the two nations.
Kenya Film Commission Chief Executive Officer Timothy Owase revealed that the visiting team has committed to shooting at least four Bollywood films in the country.
Indian High Commissioner Rahul Chabra stated that the festival aims to enhance bilateral relations between Kenya and India, as well as support the growing interest of the Indian film and entertainment industry in Kenya.
