The national government is set to take over the Ksh 460 million Mama Ngina Waterfront project in Mombasa on Thursday, following the completion of the project within the stipulated time frame and budget.
Public Works Principal Secretary Prof. Paul Maringa confirmed that the contractor had worked diligently to meet the deadline, and the project was now ready for handover.
According to Maringa, the modern public recreational facility will boost the tourism industry and reposition Mombasa as a top destination within the region.
The waterfront, located along Mombasa's Mama Ngina drive, is projected to attract over 1.5 million visitors during the December holidays.
The Ministry of Technology has already installed the necessary technological infrastructure for the provision of high-speed internet to enhance communication and security at the facility.
The government intends to initiate similar beachfront projects along the coastline as well as along Lake Victoria.
