Gavana Ferdinand Waititu has relocated to Nairobi, sparking a power struggle in Kiambu County as some officials back his deputy, James Nyoro.
Waititu, who is facing corruption charges, has been holding meetings with some county officials in his new office in Nairobi's Koinange Street, despite a court ruling that he cannot occupy the county's offices.
According to a Nation report, Waititu has been holding meetings with some officials in his new office, which he claims is his rightful place. However, his deputy, James Nyoro, has been backed by some officials who claim they benefited from Waititu's 2017 campaign.
"There's nothing much going on in Kiambu right now. The politics of deceit has brought everything to a standstill; we're also confused as to who to follow," one county official told Nation.
Waititu has denied allegations that he is trying to sabotage Nyoro's efforts, saying he has the right to hold meetings with whoever he wants in his own office.
"What's wrong with me holding meetings with my friends in my own house? It's my right to meet with whoever I want. My meetings don't aim to sabotage Nyoro. Why would I sabotage him when I have the upper hand? I'm still his boss," Waititu said.
