Kenya's Most Expensive Weddings

Kenyan weddings have become increasingly expensive in recent years, with celebrities leading the way in splurging on their big days.

Janet Mbugua's wedding to Edward Ndichu in 2015 at Chaka Ranch in Nyeri is estimated to have cost around Ksh 15.9 million. The price per night at the ranch is $630, which translates to roughly Ksh 63,000. The couple likely stayed for several nights, and the cost of close relatives' accommodations should be added to this figure, bringing the total to around Ksh 6.3 million for a hundred people.

Janet's wedding gown was designed by a renowned designer, who charges between Ksh 1.5 million and above for her one-of-a-kind creations.

Other notable mentions include Bob Collymore's wedding to Wambui Kamiru in mid-2016, which is estimated to have cost around Ksh 100.7 million. The couple's simplicity was a refreshing change from the usual opulence of celebrity weddings.

Emmy Kosgei's wedding to Apostle Madubuko of Revival Assembly church was a colorful affair, with the bride and her bridal party wearing designer clothes that cost over Ksh 15 million. The venue hire cost a quarter of a million Kenyan shillings, and the couple also hired a chopper, which cost them around Sh10 million for the day.

Sharon Mundia's wedding to Leteipan in November 2016 at Watamu was a beach wedding that captured the eye of many. The event in the oceans of Watamu costs around Ksh 250,000 per day, and a room for one person per night costs Ksh 12,500.

Other celebrities who have splurged on their weddings include Gerald Mwangi, who married Hollywood star Shamea Morton in an invites-only wedding on 22nd July, and Kathy Kiuna's daughter Vanessa Kiuna, who got married at her parent's residential home in Kenya.

These weddings are a testament to the fact that for some Kenyan celebrities, their weddings are an investment, and they are willing to spend big to make their special day unforgettable.
