Published on August 11, 2019, Gor Mahia, the reigning Kenyan champions, are set to face off against Burundian champions Aigle Noir Makamba in the Caf Champions League preliminary first leg tie at the Stade Intwari in Bujumbura on Sunday.
Despite being short-staffed, with only 15 players available due to injuries and suspensions, the team's CEO, Lordvick Aduda, remains optimistic about their chances.
"We have a good team, and I am confident that they will do well in Bujumbura and finish the job back in Nairobi in two weeks' time," Aduda said in an interview with Nation Sport.
However, the team will be missing some key players, including new signings Gislain Yikpe and Francis Afryie, who were expected to provide a much-needed punch upfront.
Instead, Nicholas Kipkirui and Dickson Ambundo, who joined the team from Tanzanian side Alliance, will be tasked with the goal-hunting duties.
Aigle Noir, also known as the Black Eagle, won both the Burundian top-tier league and the Domestic Cup last season, and will be a tough opponent for Gor Mahia.
