Siaya County's 42 MCAs are facing allegations of embezzling Sh8 million meant for a foreign trip to Uganda that never took place.
According to investigations, the MCAs allegedly pocketed the money from the county assembly coffers, claiming it was for a trip to Jinja, Uganda, in February 2019.
However, a twist has emerged in the case, with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives discovering that one of the MCAs who died in 2018 was listed among those who were supposed to go on the trip.
Joanes Andiego Odongo, the late Central Sakwa MCA and Majority Whip, passed away on May 17th, 2018, after a long battle with liver and kidney complications.
The MCAs are accused of taking their passports for stamping at the Busia border, but never actually going to Uganda for the trip.
As a result, EACC will begin questioning each of the MCAs over the matter starting August 12th.
