On a rare personal outing, Deputy President William Ruto led a team in negotiating a dowry for his younger brother David Ruto, a businessman, in Ziwa, Uasin Gishu County on Friday, August 9, 2019.
The ceremony, known as 'Koito' in Kalenjin, involves the negotiation of dowry by elders from both sides of the family. DP Ruto's team was seeking to secure a union between David Ruto and his long-time fiancée Carol Kitur.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, and Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei were among the leaders who accompanied Ruto to the ceremony.
Traditionally, the groom is kept away until the negotiation is complete, allowing the elders to finalize the dowry agreement.
