On July 26, 2019, Huawei marked a significant milestone in the 5G era by launching its first 5G mobile phone for commercial use in Shenzhen, the city where its headquarters is located. The phone, Huawei Mate 20 X (5G), is powered by the Balong 5000, Huawei's first 7nm multi-code 5G chipset with the Kirin 980.
According to He Gang, head of Huawei's mobile phone division, the smartphone is the world's only dual-mode 5G cellphone that supports standalone/non-standalone (SA/NSA) simultaneously. This means it can seamlessly switch between different 5G network modes, providing users with a more stable and efficient 5G experience.
On the same day, Huawei also announced that its smart screens equipped with its own Hongmeng OS will hit the market soon. These smart screens can connect multiple devices, even from different brands, and serve as a control center for smart home systems, as stated by Yu Chengdong, chief executive officer of Huawei's consumer business.
As for the Huawei Mate 20 X (5G), it is priced at 6,199 yuan (approximately 898 U.S. dollars) and will be available for purchase starting August 16, 2019.
