On August 10, 2019, the Tripoli-based government in Libya announced its acceptance of a U.N. ceasefire proposal, citing humanitarian grounds for the move.
The proposal, which includes a ban on air strikes, was met with no immediate comment from the Libyan National Army (LNA), which had launched a surprise attack on Tripoli in April.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) will be responsible for monitoring any violations of the ceasefire agreement.
