On a dull Saturday at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Bandari and Al Ahly Shendi played out a 0-0 draw in the Caf Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg match.
Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala attributed the result to his team's struggling midfield, which failed to create any realistic chances throughout the match.
"I cannot blame my strikers for not scoring. The midfield was totally off, but all the same all is not lost, we still have a chance in Sudan and we will try and rectify the mistakes," Mwalala said after the match.
Despite the draw, Mwalala expressed optimism that his team could still make a comeback in the return leg in Sudan, citing the opportunity to learn from their opponents' style of play.
Shendy Coach Mohammed "Mazda" Abdalla, on the other hand, was confident that his team could bank on home support in the return leg, stating that the result had made the tie a 50-50 affair.
"At home we will have the support of our home fans and that could make a big difference. We will give it the best and hopefully proceed to the next round," Abdalla said.
The two teams will meet again in Sudan in a fortnight for the return leg of the Caf Confederation Cup preliminary round.
