On August 10, 2019, a 24-year-old passenger, Gerald Kimondo, tragically lost his life after being thrown out of a moving matatu on Thika Road.

The incident occurred following a disagreement between Kimondo and the conductor, Naphtali Fondo, 33, and the driver, Alex Gikonyo, 20, who allegedly pushed Kimondo from the moving vehicle.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the matatu registration number KCC O21 A is in their custody following the incident.

DCI confirmed that investigations indicate the same bus was involved in a similar incident near Safari Park Hotel last year, where a student, Doreen Kinya, was thrown out and succumbed to her injuries.

Despite the bus being involved in a similar incident, it was repainted and returned to the route, only to be involved in another fatal incident.

The bus and its driver were arrested after the incident and released on a Sh60,000 police bond, but were allowed back on the road despite protests from residents.
