Published on August 10, 2019, a group of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have rejected the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force, calling it a waste of time and public resources.
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei and Soi legislator Caled Kositany led the criticism, stating that the BBI referendum push was unfortunate, especially at a time when politicians should focus more on development agenda and wealth creation.
Speaking during a church fundraiser in Kasses, Kositany said, "They told the 2010 Constitution was the best we could get even though we raised some issues. Today they want the same Constitution be changed. They (Raila) recently rubbished Punguza Mizigo. What Ekuru is proposing is what Kenyans want,"
Shollei cautioned ODM chief Raila Odinga to go slow in his push for constitutional changes, stating that Kenyans were no longer ignorant of the law.
"Those people who are undertaking BBI process are taking Kenya for a ride and we are not fools. The Kenyan constitution-making process in 2010 was the most consultative in the entire world. You cannot go around the country collecting views which can be retrieved from audio tapes recorded in 2010. We will rather Punguza Mizigo because it resonates well with Kenyans," she added.
