On November 3, 2018, a tragic event unfolded in Sidikho Village, Navakholo Sub-County, where a 45-year-old man named Lazarus Wanjala lost his life in a brutal attack.
According to court papers, Benson Wasike and Bonface Sifuna, two boda boda riders, were alleged to have picked Wanjala and linked him with criminal activities, before jointly assaulting him with others not before court.
Wanjala's actions had previously infuriated the residents, who had mounted a manhunt to revenge. He had separated from his wife over domestic wrangles and had even burned down her parents' house in October 2018, killing livestock in the process.
Wasike, 41, and Sifuna, 26, were arrested eight months after the incident and subjected to a psychiatric test to ascertain their fitness to stand trial.
They denied the murder charge before High Court judge Jesse Njagi and were granted Sh500,000 bond with a surety of similar amount each.
Their case will be heard on November 21.
