On August 10, 2019, police in Migori County destroyed bhang worth over Ksh.6 million in Rongo town, as per a court order.

The exercise was overseen by Rongo Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat and Rongo Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Peter Nyandat.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Langat confirmed that the bhang was presented in court last year as evidence and the suspects sentenced to jail terms of between five and ten years.

Mr. Langat emphasized the court's commitment to dealing with those found guilty of trafficking bhang and commended the police for their relentless fight against narcotics in Migori County.

He also mentioned that the court is working on modalities to deal with cases of suspected drug traffickers who disappear after being granted bond by the court.

Mr. Nyandat assured residents of police commitment to winning the fight against drugs in the area and called on locals to continue supporting the police in the fight against drug trafficking.
