On August 10, 2019, Ringtone sparked controversy in the music industry after warning Stivo Simple Boy to stick to secular music.

According to Ringtone, there's no shortage of gospel singers, and Stivo Simple Boy's decision to release a gospel song, 'I Lift You Higher,' is unwelcome.

Ringtone went on to tell the upcoming singer to declare his support for the gospel, his born-again status, and the church he attends before releasing gospel songs.

He also warned gospel DJs and presenters not to play Stivo's songs, stating that they should not make the same mistake they made with Willy Paul.

Ringtone's comments have sparked debate, with many Kenyans criticizing him for not supporting young upcoming talents.
