The second edition of the Erick Situma Memorial Rugby Championships opened today at Nakuru Athletic Club, marking the first event held in 2019 to honor the late rugby coach Erick Situma. The tournament features 28 teams competing across six age categories and gender divisions, including under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17, and under 19 groups.
Competitors include multiple teams from Nakuru RFC and Impala Saracens, with matches organized into pools across different age groups. In the under 17 category, Menengai High School faces Nakuru Day Secondary School in Pool A, while Pool B includes Kabianga, Nakuru Boys, and Jomo Kenyatta High Schools. The under 15 division features Menengai A, Natewa, and Oshwal Academy in Pool A, with Menengai B, Shamas, and Spotlight Academy in Pool B.
Event director Edward Moseti emphasized the tournament's role in commemorating Situma, who coached both Nakuru RFC and Impala Saracens. The under 13 and under 15 girls categories include teams like Nakuru Boys, Sure24, and New Life School. A 2018 photo of Menengai High School player Roy Nandwa highlights the region's ongoing youth rugby development.
