On International Youth Day, Raila Odinga, the African Union Envoy, spoke at the UN offices in Gigiri, Nairobi, about the need to transform education to achieve the country's vision 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
According to Raila, the current education system is not preparing students for the jobs that are in demand, and there is a need to empower youths with proper skills to become a proper force for wealth creation in society.
He emphasized the importance of creating an environment where employers and education providers work closely to design a curriculum that fits business needs.
CS Magoha is currently spearheading a curriculum change to the 2-6-3-3-3 system, which is being promoted as talent-based.
During a session with the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Magoha disclosed that several universities were running an extortion racket of offering courses not approved by the Commission for University Education.
Magoha also vowed to eradicate the systemic rot deeply entrenched in Kenyan universities.
