Published on August 10, 2019, a Samsung Galaxy A50 user in Kenya discovered that their device's security patch level was stuck at May 2019, raising concerns about the device's security.
Further investigation revealed that the Kenyan variant of the Galaxy A50 had been missing out on security updates, including the June update that introduced night mode and super slow-motion video shooting mode to the Indian model.
However, the wait is finally over. Samsung has released a new firmware for the Galaxy A50 model sold in Kenya, version A505FDDU2ASG4, which installs the July 2019 security patch and possibly more features.
The update is being rolled out over the air (OTA), and users can expect to receive the download notification in the coming days.
Additionally, the Galaxy Tab S4 (LTE) is also receiving a new software update in Kenya, version T835JXU3BSF2, which bumps the security patch level to May 1, 2019.
Although the update is not as recent as the August security patch, it is still a welcome development for Tab S4 owners, who can expect to receive the Android Q update in the future.
