Expert Tips for Leisure Travel

Published on August 10, 2019

Traveling is an experience that everyone should enjoy at least once in their lifetime. After years of work, school, and family, taking a break from daily life is a great way to let loose and appreciate what nature has to offer.

Whether you're planning a boutique hotel stay or a guided tour through the African wild, it's essential to plan well to ensure a smooth trip. Here are some expert tips to keep in mind:

  • When traveling, avoid exchanging money at the hotel front desk or airport. Instead, use an ATM to get a better exchange rate and lower charges.
  • Notify your bank of your travel plans, especially if you plan to use your cards for transactions. This will prevent your cards from being declined as a precaution.
  • Take photos of your important documents and cards before leaving, and email them to yourself in case something happens to your phone.
  • Carry extra passport photos in your wallet, just in case you lose your passport while abroad. This will speed up the process of replacing it.
  • Keep your appearance simple and avoid expensive jewelry when traveling, as it may attract unwanted attention from thieves and pickpockets.
  • Make your luggage easy to spot by tying a colorful strip or band to the handle, and consider packing half of your clothes in your partner's suitcase.
  • Consider buying a cheap phone or getting a local SIM card for extended vacations, or research roaming charges to determine if they're worth the cost.
  • Leave expensive items behind, and carry your wallet and valuables in a secure location, such as the front pocket of your pants.
  • Use a travel agent to get the best deals on tickets, and never compromise on travel insurance for peace of mind.
